Taapsee Pannu Sona Mohapatra React: The Supreme Court bench's comment in an ongoing rape case has received a lot of backlash.
Yesterday, the SC bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde asked a government servant whether if he would be willing to marry the girl whom he had allegedly raped. This question was raised after the rape accused submitted a plea to seek protection against arrest. Now the court has given him interim protection from arrest for four weeks.
The bench was hearing a special leave petition filed by the man, who is a government servant in Maharashtra. Earlier the Bombay HC (Aurangabad Bench) had cancelled his anticipatory bail.

Singer Sona Mohapatra questioned about how the Supreme Court of India could stoop so low. She said the thought of a rapist marrying his victim was 'gory and repulsive.'
Photographer Atul Kasbekar too expressed his disgust over the comment.
I honestly cannot fathom this warped form of ‘justice’

Whatsoever
Who can possibly have any logic as to how this can be any sort of solution? https://t.co/2pXKpLSmbz
The case so far
The court documents state that Mohit Subhash Chavan who is the rape accused would stalk the girl who was then a minor. He had allegedly raped her when her family members were out of the house.
Chavan told the court that the girl's mother had supposedly told her to marry him as soon as she decided to go to the cops. Subsequently, it was stated that they would wed as soon as she turned 18. However, when the time came, Chavan refused to marry her, and so, she filed a rape complaint against him.
The Supreme Court then asked him whether he could marry the girl, but he said that initially he wanted to, but now he can't as he is already married.
Later, the Supreme Court's verdict of granting him protection for four weeks was passed.
