Taapsee Pannu, who stunned the audience with her stellar performance in Pink, seems to have taken up the gauntlet of committing herself to the task of ensuring women's well-being. She has launched a helpline through which a set of professional counsellors will assist women in dealing with incidents of harassment and mental distress.
Redressal committees at regional levels have also been instituted to facilitate the process and ensure effective implementation and working of the helpline. Any call made to the helpline number (011-49694998) will be answered by trained executives, who will redirect them to a counsellor.
Realizing the need to keep women safe at workplaces, Taapsee tells Mid-Day,
"It is a profound initiative for all working women, especially in the events, entertainment and media industry. It is not just a step towards making the working environment safe for women, but also in making the world a better place to live in."

This is not the first time that Taapsee has endeavoured to contribute towards the development of women in the country. Her powerful role in Pink speaks volumes about her belief in bringing women-centric issues to the limelight and exposing society's ugly and hypocritical side in front of everyone.
Her campaign "No Means No" sent an effective message to the audience about the meaning of "consent"
In a recent interview with The Times Of India, she advised women to take their safety in their hands. Relying on the police or the government is futile, she said. She has also expressed her desire to teach the basics of martial arts to women as she feels self-defence is the only way women can take care of themselves. She learnt this skill during the shoot of Naam Shabana and wants to put it to good use.
The helpline is the right step taken in the direction of making the working woman's life easier. We aspire for more such initiatives to encourage more and more women to join the workforce without a shred of fear in their minds.
