IT Raids On Taapsee Pannu, Anurag Kashyap: All You Need To Know

Taapsee Pannu: On March 3, 2021, the properties of Taapsee Pannu and Anurag Kashyap were raided by the income tax department.

According to the Income Tax Department, their searches found discrepancy and manipulation of income at various places linked with Pannu, Kashyap and his partners that launched the now-defunct production house Phantom Films. The officials stated that the production house staff were unable to explain the discrepancy of around Rs 300 crore. Officials also alleged finding issues with 5 crore rupees in cash received by Pannu who finally responded on twitter with these points.

All You Need To Know About The Taapsee Pannu Raids

1. The searches are a part of a tax evasion probe against Phantom Films. Searches were carried out across 28 locations in Mumbai and Pune.
2. Searches also covered the properties of Reliance Entertainment group CEO Shibhasish Sarkar and the companies KWAN and Exceed.
3. Production staff employees of Phantom films which dissolved in 2018 searched include Vikramaditya Motwane, Vikas Bahl, and Madhu Mantena.
4. Taapsee Pannu and Anurag Kashyap were questioned by income tax officials while shooting in Pune for their upcoming film
5. WhatsApp chat logs, emails, documents and computer peripherals were seized in the raid from various locations.
6. The Income Tax Department said in a statement released that evidence of cash receipts by Pannu amounting to Rs 5 crore rupees have been recovered.
7. Since Pannu and Kashyap are vocal about their views and have been critical of Bharatiya Janta Party, there have been allegations by Twitterati that the government is targeting them.
8. Maharashtra minister Ashok Chavan stated “The Central government uses these methods to pressure and threaten anyone who holds the capacity to raise a voice against it. The government is using these mediums to silence those who speak against it.”
9. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that the raids were carried out against those who are pro-farmers.
10. Government ministers rejected the allegations that the raids were linked to political comments made by Pannu and Kashyap.
