Taapsee Pannu Anurag Kashyap Income Tax Raid: The income tax raid was performed on the properties of actor Taapsee Pannu, Anurag Kashyap, and Vikas Bahl by the income tax department on Wednesday.
Some sources reportedly stated that the income tax raid is a part of a tax evasion probe. The income tax officials have searched over 30 locations in Mumbai, Pune, and also premises connected to a talent agency, etc. "The Income Tax department probes someone based on whatever information they get. The issue goes to court later," Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said during a press briefing.
Here are 7 Things To Know About Taapsee Pannu, Anurag Kashyap income tax raid:
- The income tax raids were performed on the properties associated with Taapsee Pannu, Anurag Kashyap, and Vikas Bahl. Producer Madhu Mantena is also under the watchful eye of the income tax department.
- The raid is linked to the Phantom Films production company which was wiped out in 2018 after its co-founder Vikas Bahl faced sexual harassment charges. The company was started by Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane, producer Madhu Mantena and Vikas Bahl in 2011.
- It is said that Vikas Bahl had bought the shares of the company. However, Anurag Kashyap came up with his own production company Good Bad Films later.
- Co-incidentally, the raids come at a time when both Taapsee Pannu and Anurag Kashyap have been vocal about certain political issues such as farm laws. Anurag Kashyap had disapproved of the violence meted out against the Citizenship Act protestors in 2019. Both of them had also showcased their support for actor Rhea Chakraborty after the death of her boyfriend Sushant Singh Rajput.
- Many politicians have criticised the tax raid. This includes Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav and Shiv Sena deputy leader Priyanka Chaturvedi.
- Maharashtra minister Ashok Chavan said “It’s not a new thing for the country. It happens almost every day. The Central government uses these methods to pressure and threaten anyone who holds the capacity to raise a voice against it. The government is using these mediums to silence those who speak against it."
- The income tax raid has sparked a meme fest on Twitter. Many are now claiming that actor Kangana Ranaut might be the happiest person today (due to the on-and-off feud between her and Taapsee Pannu).
