Swara Bhaskar Receives Death Threat At Her Mumbai Residence, Police Launch Probe

Actor Swara Bhaskar receives a death threat letter at her residence in Versova, Mumbai. The Mumbai police have launched a probe into the threatening letter.

Swara Bhaskar filed a complaint after receiving an anonymous threat letter. The letter was reportedly sent to her residence by speed post. It warned the actor against insulting Veer Savarkar. The Mumbai police registered an FIR and are investigating the letter threatening death.

The death threat was written in Hindi, filled with abuses, and threatened her life. The letter stated that the country would not tolerate insults against the politician and activist Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, also known as Veer Savarkar. It was signed off by ‘the youth of the nation’.

In 2017, Bhaskar tweeted that Savarkar had apologised to the British government and pleaded to be let out of jail. She said his actions were not ‘Veer’ (brave).

Bhaskar also tweeted a video in 2019 with the caption “The planned construction of a most cowardly ‘braveheart’. Understanding ‘Veer’ Savarkar.”

A police official told PTI that “Based on the complaint, we have registered a non-cognisable offence against unidentified persons”.

Swara Bhaskar Receives Death Threat

Bhaskar took to her Twitter account and shared images of the letter she received. She tweeted that “The youth of the country are demanding jobs on the streets. But, a certain part of the population is ready to suffer from inflation, unemployment and starvation, but is not willing to accept the historical truth and facts”.

The death threat letter doesn't mark the first time Bhaskar has been targeted. In 2018, 'Arrest Swara Bhasker' began trending on Twitter after she made a tweet regarding the Taliban's capture of Afghanistan. She spoke about how humanitarian and ethical values should not be based on the identity of the oppressor or the oppressed. It led to 'Arrest Swara Bhasker' trending because she had hurt "religious sentiments".

Earlier this month, actor Salman Khan and his father Salim Khan also received a death threat through an anonymous letter. Salim Khan's security team found the threatening letter outside their Mumbai home where he goes for his morning jog.
