Sushmita Dev Attacked: Trinamool Congress leader and member of parliament Sushmita Dev's car was was reportedly vandalised by unidentified persons in Tripura on Friday. Dev is seeing TMC's political campaign in Tripura. She alleged that Bharatiya Janta Party is behind the attack on her and her supporters.
The politician was travelling with the Indian Political Action Committee of I-PAC, a political public relations, and consultancy firm when the attack happened. I-PAC and Prashant Kishor has worked with West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee in the assembly elections held earlier this year. The visuals of the spot show that a blue colour SUV with TMC's election symbol and loudspeakers on the roof had been dented due to multiple hits.
In a complaint to the police Trinamool Congress said, "Sushmita Dev along with 10 other party workers of TMC were brutally attacked by workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party at Amtali bazar around 1:30 pm. The perpetrators vandalised vehicles, physically assaulted workers of the TMC and outraged the modesty of female party workers." The party spokespersons added that the people of Tripura will give a befitting response to the "barbaric attack".
The party also claimed that the attack was accompanied by a theft wherein the mobile phones of the party supporters were stolen.
"We request you to urgently enquire about the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice," the Trinamool Congress said
Sushmita Dev who recently joined TMC was former All India Women Congress chief. On September 27 this year, elected to Rajya Sabha. Since there was no Bharatiya Janta Party candidate standing against her, she got elected unopposed. Dev joined TMC in August this year. She is the former Member of Parliament from Assam’s Silchar constituency. At the time of joining TMC, she had said that she is “beginning a new chapter of public service”.
