A 24-year-old man named Dinesh Baisane was found guilty by the Sessions Court in Gujarat's Surat on Thursday for the rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl. He was given the death penalty.
As per reports, the man had raped the girl had thrashed her with a brick a year ago. The relevant charges of the Indian Penal Code and sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act had been applied on his. The death penalty against him was demanded by public prosecutor Nayan Sukhadwala. The convict is a native of Maharashtra and lives in Surat.

Surat Rape Convict Death Penalty Order:
The public prosecutor told the court that Baisane had lured the girl by offering her a vada pav when she was playing near her uncle's house on December 7, 2020. He then took her to a secluded place and sexually assaulted her. When the little girl started to make noises calling for help, the convict thrashed her to death using a brick.
As per the post mortem report, the girl had 45 marks of injury on her body and was brutally killed. It also revealed that the man had hit her head seven to eight times with a brick which killed her. The convict had then dumped the girl's body in the bushes. When the girl did not return home till evening, her parents filed a case with the police.
The police reportedly went through the CCTV camera footages in the area and identified Baisane with the girl at the vada pav shop. He was then arrested.

In Bulandshahr area of Uttar Pradesh, a 20-year-old man was sentenced to life till death by a special Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) court for raping a nine-month-old baby. The incident had taken place in July this year. The court was able to give the judgement within five months since the case.
Justice Pallavi Agarwa in her order said, "the accused will remain in jail till his last breath.” A fine of Rs 50,000 was also imposed on the convict.
