On Wednesday, a video started doing the rounds on the internet which showed the shameful state the country has fallen to. What has shocked the nation is that the video, which has two women being subjected to gruesome brutality, shows events dating back to May, right at the time when the Manipur violence began. Two women from the hill district of Kangpokpi can be seen forced to walk naked towards a field by a mob of men.
The video has caused outrage across the country, and the Supreme Court has intervened with some very important questions. In a statement issued, the Apex Court stated that it is disturbed by the events that are taking place in Manipur, and the visuals of two women being subjected to this level of cruelty show the shameful state the country has reached to.
Supreme Court On Manipur Violence Against Women
Calling the Manpur violence against women the 'grossest of constitutional failure' the Chief Justice Of India has demanded answers from the central government, urging them to take immediate action.
ANI quoted the Supreme Court and shared the latest update. "The visuals show gross constitutional violation and infraction of human life using women as instruments of perpetrated violence is against constitutional democracy. Let the Centre and state apprise the court of steps taken."
The matter will be further heard until next Friday in the hearing.
The Chief Justice also stated that if the government doesn't act on it, the Supreme Court will, and that it's high time the centre steps in and takes immediate, justifiable action.
The outrage caused on social media is necessary to move from the comfortable acceptance the country has collectively subjected to when it comes to violence against women. The fact that the video is two months old, and this case of extremist cruelty is only surfacing now shows why this is no country for women!
