Arvind Kejriwal calls for a six-day lockdown
Yesterday, the chief minister of Delhi called for a six-day lockdown starting from Monday night (yesterday) till April 26. He had also appealed to the people to stay at home. This is because the capital city is crumbling under the surge of COVID-19 infections. “Less than 100 ICU beds are available in Delhi now. Oxygen too is short and we are in talks with the centre over its supply. This is the fourth wave in Delhi. Our health system hasn’t collapsed, but it is on edge… All systems have their limits… We announced the lockdown because there was no other option left,” CM Kejriwal said.
During the lockdown period, only essential services will remain active. Weddings with a gathering of only 50 people will be allowed, provided that valid passes are issued for them. Migrant workers have been told to not leave Delhi during this time. Also, people coming or going to railway stations, airports, will be allowed to travel on the production of a valid ticket.
Besides this, Arvind Kejriwal has also preponed the summer vacations of school children.
“In view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation, the summer vacation during Academic Session 2021-2022 is hereby rescheduled and will be observed from April 20 to June 9,” the Directorate of Education (DoE) said in official order. Many other states in the country have also decided to shutdown down all educational institutes.
