Sunil Tiwari Rape Allegations: 5 Things About The Case
1. Tiwari, a close aide of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Marandi, is reportedly accused of rape by his female domestic help who alleges the incident occurred last year. An FIR in connection to the case is registered in Ranchi.
2. Marandi was notably the first Chief Minister of Jharkhand holding his seat between 2000 and 2003. Currently, he leads the opposition in the state legislative assembly.
3. As quoted in a Hindustan Times report, Tiwari has refuted the allegations of rape against him, claiming political vendetta behind the matter. He has filed a petition in court seeking CBI investigation in a case of alleged rape against current CM Hemant Soren on the complaint of a Mumbai girl, he says.
4. The rape case against him is a "result of that," Tiwari alleges. He adds he previously sought protection from Ranchi police and the government since he was allegedly receiving threats with regard to the case against Soren. As per reports, Soren was accused of rape by a woman in 2013 who withdrew her complaint the same year but sought an FIR against him last year.
5. Spokespersons from Soren's Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) party have reportedly assured due action in the rape case against Tiwari.
