Two of the students, Adnan Shah and Kadir Mansoori study at the Oxford College while the other two, Umar Khalid and Sayyad Sakib are friends of the two.

Maheshchand Jain, the superintendent of police in Indore West, said in a statement that the action against the four was "unfair", and that he had recommended against their detention. According to Malharganj SDM Parag Jain, based on the police report, the four were booked  for causing "public nuisance". He added all of them were sent to jail as their families failed to produce bail bonds.

Tarun Devda, who is the Bajrang Dal VHP district in-charge, reportedly wrote to the police, saying that the SDM had given permission to the college to hold the event only for 800 people, but it sold tickets to 3000. Further, he accused the college of 'commercialisation' while assembling young women, and 'promoting' Love Jihad. The letter sought inquiry and action against the organisers of the event, while claiming to have photos and videos.

Habib Noor, who was a volunteer at the entry of the event, stated that members of Bajrang Dal picked out Mansoori in the parking lot. Kadir had tried telling them that he is a student of the college, but they still dragged him away. Noor added that when Mansoori tried calling out to Adnan for testifying that he is a student at the college, they took him as well.

Adnan's uncle said that they learnt of the detention on 11:30, Sunday and argued that whether it is a Republic Day celebration or Garba, they participate in all college functions, what are they being punished for?

The SDM said that the organisers were all booked for violating COVID norms, for 5000 people were found at the event, and an FIR had been registered against them. The college owners have still not responded to the incident.
