Global investors and startup owners, Indian women entrepreneurs, social, tech and manufacturing founders will all come under one roof to discuss the mega start-up story in India and ways to make this a more robust ecosystem.

Meet Women Entrepreneurs, Know Their Stories

‘Start-up India Stand Up India’, a new initiative that Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about will be the government’s New Year gift to India's young entrepreneurs. The government will formally launch the initiative on January 16 in an event that will also see the participation of all major higher educational institutions through an online connect. IITs, IIMs, central universities, NITs and other institutions are among the many that be connected live to the launch event.

The Prime Minister is following up on an idea he first flagged off during the Independence Day, citing the need to focus on India's start-up and entrepreneurial abilities. “On August 15, I had made an initial mention of ‘Start-Up India Stand Up India’. After that it has been discussed in all government departments. Can India become the start-up capital of the world? On January 16, the government will launch the full action-plan of ‘Start-up India Stand Up India’. I will come before you to discuss this in detail and would welcome your suggestions. I would request the state governments as well to take this forward,” said Modi.

The Start-up initiative, as envisaged by the Prime Minister, involves bank loans for entrepreneurs. Each of the nation's 1.25 lakh bank branches should encourage at least one Dalit or tribal entrepreneur and at least one woman entrepreneur, he had announced from the ramparts of the Red Fort.

Since the announcement on Independence Day, PM Modi has spoken repeatedly about the importance of entrepreneurship and the resulting job creation in getting the nation to move forward. Several start-up festivals have been held abroad, notably during PM Modi's recent visit to California.
