A 24-year-old woman in Srinagar suffered serious injuries in an acid attack on February 1, 2022. On Wednesday, the Mayor of Srinagar handed her his one month's salary and hoped that she gets speedy justice.
According to reports, the woman was attacked with acid in the downtown area of Srinagar. The police have arrested three accused persons in the case. The Mayor, Junaid Azim Mattu visited the survivor at the Srinagar's Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital where is she is undergoing treatment after suffering serious injuries.
Srinagar Acid Attack Case:
The attack sparked protests in the city and many political and social groups demanded the police to ensure the culprits get exemplary punishment for the crime.
Mattu tweeted, "Met the parents of the young acid attack victim at SMHS Hospital today along with a DLSA and ICPS team. Handed over my one-month honorarium to the family as a humble token of my solidarity and support." He also said that he will write to the Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha for full financial assistance and best possible treatment for the acid attack survivor. Reportedly, the police have set up a special investigation team for the case and arrested three accused persons in the case within a day of the case being reported.

One accused named Sajad Altaf Rather allegedly planned the acid attack while others helped him, the police said. Rather reportedly works at a pharmacy. The accused person allegedly planned the attack after the survivor reportedly rejected his relationship proposal. The police also said that Sajad was allegedly stalking the woman for some time after she rejected his proposal.
A police spokesperson said, "As the case was serious, the Srinagar Police immediately formed an SIT headed by SP North Raja Zuhaib. During initial field investigations and technical analysis, the name of one suspect came up, which led to the arrest of the main accused, Sajid Altaf Rather."
Omar Abdullah patted the police for their swift action and urged them to ensure a water tight case so that the court hands out exemplary punishment for the crime. Police have also sealed an automobile shop for giving the acid since its sale and purchase are banned by the Supreme Court.
