A Spanish tourist woman was allegedly gang raped in Jharkhand's Dumka district on March 1, according to local police. The 45-year-old woman told the police that she and her husband were spending the night in a makeshift tent in Kurumahat, around 300 km from the State capital Ranchi, when seven to eight local men dragged her to a secluded place and raped her. The Spanish tourist was on a bike trail from Bangladesh to Bihar and then Nepal when the incident occurred in Jharkhand, where they had stopped for the night. The official said that three arrests have been made so far, while a manhunt is on for the remaining persons. The survivor has been admitted to a local hospital.
Dumka SP Pitamber Singh Kherwar told the Times Of India, "At around 10:30 p.m.-11 p.m., the woman stopped a police van that was on patrol in the area for help. She had some bruise injuries too. The policemen took her to the hospital where she told doctors that she was raped. We are looking into the case." The tourist has reportedly posted about the incident on her social media, seeking help.
