Ever felt like your name was too long, and you'd wanted to change it? Well, in recent news, Spanish authorities are asking Duke Fernando Fitz-James Stuart and his wife, Sofia Palazuelo Estilo, to change the name of their newborn daughter, whom the couple want to name 'Sofia Fernanda Dolores Cayetana Teresa Angela de la Cruz Micaela del Santisimo Sacramento del Perpetuo Socorro de la Santisima Trinidad y de Todos Los Santos.'
The Spanish Duke and Duchess have been asked by Spanish authorities to change the name of their daughter, which is 157 letters long and goes over Spanish naming regulations.
What's In A Name?
A descendant of King James II of England, Spanish Duke Fernando Fitz-James Stuart wants to name his daughter 'Sofia Fernanda Dolores Cayetana Teresa Angela de la Cruz Micaela del Santisimo Sacramento del Perpetuo Socorro de la Santisima Trinidad y de Todos Los Santos,' and has been told by Spanish authorities to shorten the 25-word name significantly if he wants his child to be legally registered in Spain, according to The Telegraph.
According to the Spanish publication El Pais, no more than one compound (hyphenated name) can be recorded, and no more than two simple ones, making the baby girl's 25-word, 157-letter name unintelligible to Spanish legal naming regulations, according to Spanish authorities.
According to reports, the extremely long name of the ducal couple's child is said to be a tribute to the late Duchess of Alba, various family members, and religious devotions the pair share. According to NDTV, the newborn has already been baptised " in the historic centre of Seville earlier this month, but her legal name may differ from the one used during the baptism."
On Instagram, Duke Fernando's wife, Sofia Palazuelo Estilo may have hinted at what they plan to call their baby girl in an Instagram post- 'Sofia'.
