The personal aide of Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi, PP Madhavan, has been charged with rape. In a statement on the incident, Delhi police stated that an FIR had been filed at the Uttam Nagar police station in Delhi under sections 376 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). After receiving a complaint against Madhavan from the police on June 25, an FIR was lodged.
According to reports, Madhavan has been charged with raping a Dalit woman while pretending to conduct a job interview. Reports also reveal that until the survivor's husband passed in 2020, the deceased man's occupation was a labourer at the Congress's Delhi headquarters.
PP Madhavan Charged With Rape
The police have also accused Madhavan of "criminal intimidation" in addition to rape.
Finally speaking out about the rape allegations brought against him, Sonia Gandhi's assistant PP Madhavan claimed that all accusations against him were false and that the complaint was manufactured to avenge him and his party politically.
In a formal statement, Madhavan claimed that he had the proof to show and prove that the complaint was filed with premeditation in order to settle a personal score with a political rival and that the current claim was without foundation.
He stated that the police were looking into the accusations made against a 71-year-old man who serves as a senior political figure's personal secretary.
Even though the DCP omitted the political figure's name, Delhi Police authorities claimed Madhavan was the target of the accusations.
The woman claimed in the FIR that she had poor financial standing and went to the Congress office to obtain Madhavan's phone number.

Madhavan in a statement said: “Recently it has been brought to my knowledge that some media reports are floating wherein it has been propagated that a complaint has been filed against me… wherein I have been accused of sexual offences by a woman who claims to be a Congress worker and who was promised a job by me. I have got to know of registration of the alleged FIR only from media reports. Though had appeared before the Station House Officer… on 25.6.2022 and put forth my explanation whereafter I was asked to leave.”
