Actress and film director Soni Razdan stood in support of Rhea Chakraborty, who is being investigated in the drug case registered by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in connection with the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. Reacting to a Twitter user's comment that Chakraborty has "possibly lost any chance at a career in Bollywood," Razdan wrote, “She going to jail has clearly exposed only the people who sent her there and shown that she was an innocent victim of a very twisted design. Why won’t anyone work with her? I think she will do very well. I hope so anyway.”

Chakraborty spent almost a month in jail in the case and is out on bail. Her brother Showik too got out of jail after three months. Razdan extended her support to Chakraborty in the controversy. She was being called a “gold digger” on various social media platforms and the media trial against her worried her mother, Sandhya Chakraborty. This reportedly started with a complaint lodged by Rajput’s father KK Singh last year in Patna, alleging that Chakraborty and her family were responsible for his son’s death. Following which, her name also popped up in the drug probe carried out by the NCB. She was arrested in September last year.
In her tweet, Razdan came out in support and targeted certain sections of the media for declaring someone guilty without a verdict.
On depression
Earlier, Chakraborty had claimed that she is being targeted in the alleged “witch-hunt” which according to her is destroying a “simple, innocent, middle-class family.” The Jalebi actress had said in an interview, “People judge depression so poorly that people find it difficult to communicate. Person going through it feels misunderstood. In Sushant’s case, I don’t understand why he would do this. His condition had worsened in the lockdown. Contrary to what people think, people who are depressed can laugh."
On the work front, Chakraborty will soon be seen in Chehre, co-starring Amitabh Bachchan and Emraan Hashmi. The film is directed by Rumi Jaffery, scheduled to hit the screens in 2021.
