Union Minister Smriti Irani responded to actor Payal Ghosh’s allegations of sexual misconduct against Anurag Kashyap. As Irani handles the Ministry of Women & Child Development, the National Commission for Women comes under her jurisdiction. In an interview, Smriti Irani said, "I am in a Constitutional position that oversees the National Commission for Women. NCW has made a public statement, hence it will be inappropriate for me to digress and get into their constitutional area about how they want to go ahead with a particular case."
Payal Ghosh, an Indian actress who tweeted about her experience with Anurag Kashyap and claimed he 'forced himself' on her. Ghosh claimed she met him in 2014 at his office with her manager.
Payal Ghosh allegations
She took to Twitter to accuse Kashyap of sexual abuse on Saturday. In the same tweet, she tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asked for help.
@anuragkashyap72 has forced himself on me and extremely badly. @PMOIndia @narendramodi ji, kindly take action and let the country see the demon behind this creative guy. I am aware that it can harm me and my security is at risk. Pls help! https://t.co/1q6BYsZpyx

She wrote “Anurag Kashyap has forced himself on me and extremely badly. Narendra Modi ji, kindly take action and let the country see the demon behind this creative guy. I am aware that it can harm me and my security is at risk. Pls help!” Following this, the director denied it and called the allegations baseless.
In an interview with ABN Telugu, she alleged Anurag Kashyap Kashyap disrespected women.
"When I felt uncomfortable, he told me you do not have to feel shy because my girls do it all the time. They are just a call away, they have a good time with me. He proudly took the names of the women he has been with and spoke about his relationships with me even though he barely knew me. That revealed how much he disrespected women.”
Reportedly Kashyap's first wife Aarti Bajaj slammed Payal Ghosh's allegations against the director.
After Ghosh’s allegation, in a tweet, the National Commission for Women chairperson Rekha Sharma has asked her to register a detailed complaint against the director to the NCW.
You may send me the detailed complaint at chairperson-ncw@nic.in and @NCWIndia will look into it. @iampayalghosh https://t.co/KZzPwkmuwZ

On September 21, Anurag’s lawyer issued a press statement denying the allegations.
The statement reads: ‘My client, Anurag Kashyap, has been deeply pained by the false allegations of sexual misconduct that have recently surfaced against him. These allegations are completely false, malicious and dishonest. It is sad that a social movement as important as the #metoo movement has been co-opted by vested interests and reduced to a mere tool for character assassination. Fictitious allegations of this nature seriously undermine the movement and seek to unconscionably trade upon the pain and trauma of actual victims of sexual harassment and abuse. My client has been advised about his rights and remedies in law and intends to pursue them to the fullest extent - Priyanka Khimani.’
