Indian women cricket team which is currently serving an isolation period of 14 days, told news agency PTI on September 2 that the rooms given to the players "are way too small". Officials added that they unable to find enough space, the players are engaging in "light practice".
One of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials said, "The rooms are way too small. You barely manage to move around and do some training. There are no guards manning the place like the players witnessed in the UK but it is very strict." As of today, it is only the fourth day of the isolation period in Brisbane.
The official added that unable to find enough room at the government's institutional quarantine facility, the players are currently somehow managing to do light training.
The PTI report added that although the food served at the facility is okay, the menu keeps changing without prior notice." It will be a challenging two weeks," the official said.
Back in the UK, the players were allowed to train within the first week of their quarantine having spent two weeks in isolation in Mumbai. This allowance was much better compared to the current scenario in Australia, as per reports. The team landed in Brisbane on Monday after a change in the tour program. The change was caused owing to COVID-19 restrictions at the original venues for the series comprising three ODIs, a day-night test and three T20s. The venues are in Sydney, Perth and Melbourne.
Now, the series, previously scheduled for September 19 is likely to be delayed by two days to September 21 and will be played in Queensland.
While women are confined to their hotel rooms for 14 days, the men's cricket team, on the other hand, was reportedly allowed to train for a limited period during its quarantine. According to a report by Hindustan Times, Australia is among the countries which have imposed some of the strictest restrictions on international travelers.
