Singer and songwriter Lizzo has always been vocal about issues surrounding body positivity and the body-shaming she has to endure regularly. After she shared her juice detox journey on TikTok on Sunday, the rapper received a lot of criticism for promoting "diet culture." Lizzo responded to the backlash saying that she usually feels "afraid and ashamed" to share her experience about the 10-day detox "because I feel like as a big girl, people expect if you are doing something for health, you’re doing it for a dramatic weight loss, and that is not the case."

Revealing the reason why she embarked on a ten-day detox, Lizzo said, “In reality, November stressed me the f--- out." She added, "I drank a lot, I ate a lot of spicy things and things that f---ed my stomach up. I wanted to reverse it and get back to where I was. I’m so proud of myself. I’m proud of my results. My sleep has improved, my hydration, my inner peace, my mental stability, my f---ing body, my f---ing skin, the whites of my eyes, I feel and look like a bad b--- — and that’s it,” reported Billboard.
Addressing the controversy further Lizzo also shared a comparison on Instagram stories between her day one and day 10 body and said that she is “proud” of herself and the results. The singer also advised other women to do whatever they want to do with their body, "And every big girl should do whatever the f--- they want with their bodies.”
Before responding to the backlash Lizzo had said that she started this juice detox with the help of a nutritionist and with proper research. The singer went on to share videos from each day of this detox and even shared a glimpse of her juice detox schedule.

Another one of her fans tweeted how Lizzo's message has always championed body positivity, “Wait people are mad at @lizzo for dieting? Her message is body positivity, no matter the body. I’m a full sized lady who loves her music and feels empowered regardless if she is on a vegan/smoothie kick. She is a musician who doesn’t just exist to be my role model."
