Some good news for Indian badminton followers as top seeds Sikki Reddy and Pranaav Chopra defeated the Canadian pair of Toby Ng and Rachel Honderich 21-15, 21-16 in straight games to win the mixed doubles title at the Brazil Grand Prix on Sunday. The match lasted all of 37 minutes. With this win, they became the third-ever Indian badminton mixed doubles pair to win a Grand Prix title thus far.

While the Indian pair, ranked 65th in the world had defeated Fabian Holzer and Barbara Bellenberg of Germany to move to the finals in Foz do Iguacu, Toby-Rachel came through a difficult, three game match against Michael Fuchs and Eva Janssens of Germany 16-21, 21-19, 21-17 in the other semi-final.

A part of the BWF Grand Prix competitions, this is one of the main events in the Brazilian badminton calendar.
Meanwhile, Fourth seed Anand Pawar, the only Indian competing in men’s singles, had beaten up top seed Zulfadli Zulkiffli of Malaysia 21-18, 11-21, 17-21 in the men's final earlier in the day. The men's doubles pair of Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy and women's singles player Saili Rane had crashed out of the tournament.
