Shweta Tiwari got caught up in a controversy during the press conference for the promotions of her upcoming web series at Bhopal. She shared the stage with co-actors Rohit Roy, Sourabh Raaj Jain, Digangana Suryavanshi, where she spoke - “Meri bra ka size bhagwaan le rahe hain.” (God is taking the measurement of my bra size.)
The Home Minister of Madhya Pradesh initiated an enquiry into the matter where the statement was deemed offensive and people objected to her remark during the press conference. The video made rounds on social media. The netizens even called for a boycott of the web series and have asked for the actor's arrest.
Shweta Tiwari Issues Apology
While she refrained from commenting on the matter before, a public apology has been issued by Tiwari as of today where she mentions her statement was misconstrued by the media and has been taken out of context.
She informed that she was referring to a previous role essayed by a colleague and when put in context, one can understand that it was related to Sourabh Raaj Jain’s role in a show where he played the role of a Hindu god, Lord Krishna. She clarified that people often use a character's name to refer to an actor and that was what she did during the conversation with the media.

In her apology, she wrote-"As someone who has been a staunch believer of ‘Bhagwaan’ myself, there is no way that I would intentionally or unintentionally say or do any such thing that would hurt sentiments by and large. "
However, as the statement was taken out of context she took cognisance of the fact that many people were hurt unintentionally and she clarified by adding- "It has never been my intention to hurt anyone, with my words or actions. Hence, I would like to humbly apologise for the hurt that my statement has unintentionally caused to a lot of people.”
As per the reports of PTI, the actor has been charged under section 295 (A) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The section deals with the acts intended to outrage or insult religious beliefs. The case was filed against Tiwari by a local man who was allegedly hurt by the statement of the actor.
