Television actor Shweta Tiwari grabbed headlines on January 27 as she caused immense distress to BJP Minister Narrotam Mishra. What did she do? She said that "God is measuring her bra size."
Not to try very hard to defend her statement, but there is an actual context to the sentence that came out of her mouth. The actor was reportedly promoting her upcoming web series titled Showstopper with her co-stars Rohit Roy, Digangna Suryavanshi and Sourabh Raaj Jain.
Because Sourabh Raaj Jain has played the role of Lord Krishna in the popular mythological show Mahabharat and is going to play the role of a 'bra fitter' in Showstopper, Tiwari may have cracked a joke. The same information was confirmed by a reporter named Piyush Parmar present at the press conference. See here.
Shweta Tiwari Bra Remark Controversy:
However, Tiwari just by mentioning God and bra in the same sentence happens to have offended him. I mean Narrotam Mishra because God seems to have refrained to comment on the issue. Mishra's dedication to God and his intolerance towards any sentence with God and bra together led him to demand the Bhopal police to take action against Shweta Tiwari within 24 hours. The urgency is real and the issue is pressing. See here how pissed Mishra is.
Tiwari sure is taking her chances because she has not come out with any statement explaining her remark at the press conference. Or maybe she does not care? Hard to say but one thing is for sure, bra is in. This is of course in contrast with how most women are feeling about the piece of inner wear currently during the pandemic.

The bra headlines came back in Vogue last week, all thanks to Malaika Arora's dog walking outfit. Many media houses claimed to have figured out that the actor was not wearing a bra when she took out her dog in her neighbourhood. Trolls were enraged, memes in bad taste were made viral and for days it was just Malaika Arora ruling the social media timelines. It seemed like Arora either refused to get her hands ( or mouth) dirty by giving her statement and maybe that is why the burning bra controversy seemed to have die down.
But then there was Shweta Tiwari. The actor is now threatened with a ban on her upcoming web series. Some social media users were also seen pointing out how every newspaper has not informed the people of this country about Tiwari's web series and how the controversy won't be such a bad thing for her and her co-stars. Who is to say how the show will perform post its release but the next 24 hours were going to be nail-bitingly tense for Tiwari.
Tiwari was obviously booked by the Bhopal police for hurting the religious sentiments of people. The case was filed by the police after a local man lodged a complaint against Tiwari. As per the police, they can formally arrest the actor but she can secure bail. The charges against her are under section 295 (A) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which relates to acts intended to outrage or insult religious beliefs.
On January 28 when a police case was filed against Tiwari, she issued an apology but emphasised that her comment was taken out of context.
Tiwari said, "It has come to my notice that a certain statement of mine referring to a colleague’s previous role has been taken out of context and has been misconstrued. When put in context, one will understand that the statement in reference to ‘Bhagwan’ was in context with Sourabh Raj Jain’s popular role of a deity. People associate character names to actors and hence, I used that as an example during my conversation with media. However, it has been completely misconstrued which is saddening to see."
She added, "As someone who has been a staunch believer of ‘Bhagwan’ myself, there is no way that I would intentionally or unintentionally say or do any such thing that would hurt sentiments by and large. I have, however, come to understand that when taken out of context, it has unintentionally hurt feelings of people. Please be assured that it has never been my intention to hurt anyone, with my words or actions. Hence, I would like to humbly apologise for the hurt that the statement has unintentionally caused to a lot of people."
