Shweta Singh Gaur Death Case: All You Need To Know
Yesterday evening, senior police officials, along with the Banda Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhinandan had reached the site where the incident had taken place. They had gone there with a forensic team and the dog squad. The body was sent for post-mortem after a detailed investigation was carried out.
Rakesh Kumar Singh, who is the Circle Officer said that the police will only be able to draw conclusions after a thorough investigation. "At present, the family members are being questioned and the maternal side has been informed about the incident," he said.
An unnamed police officer told news media that on Tuesday, Gaur had posted on Facebook a post which had the captions, "One should always be afraid of the injured lioness and humiliated woman." The officer also said that the police is trying to decode the meaning of this message. Her phone is also in the possession of the police.
Following her death, Gaur's parents have accused her husband of murder, however, the Banda SP Abhinandan stated that preliminary investigation points towards suicide, but a clearer picture will only emerge after the post-mortem reports are out.
The SP further revealed the couple was facing a family dispute and that they had a fight on Wednesday morning. Matters were settled between them with the help of family members. Reportedly, the couple was at loggerheads as Gaur was more popular politically than her husband, who had once contested the election from the Jaspura ward for the District Panchayat but had lost.
Later he did win and became a member of the Kshetra Panchayat and then tried for the Block Chief election, but failed twice. Last year, the Jaspura seat was reserved for women and that is when Shweta Singh Gaur, who had done her post-graduation in sociology, contested the election and won. She went on to become the District General Secretary of Mahila Morcha.
Recently, the father of the deceased Dharamvir Singh, who is a resident of Karvi, filed a complaint against the mother-in-law, brother-in-law, father-in-law and husband for dowry and murder. The case has been registered under section 498A, which deals with harassment of women, of the Indian Penal Code and 3/4, which deals with prosecution of any person for taking or abetting dowry, of the Dowry Prohibition Act.
Today morning, the deceased woman's body was being cremated when her parents stopped the rites and demanded the arrest of the accused persons. To settle the issue, a panchayat was called upon and in the presence of the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Prakash Dwivedi, talks were held between the two groups. A news media publication reported that last rites were allowed only on the condition that half of the husband's property will be transferred to the three daughters.
The news media also reported that the daughters of the deceased woman were pleading for justice for their mother's death. They said that everyone used to taunt and insult her. They also said that their grandfather used allegedly tell their father to divorce her and marry again as they wanted a boy.
