Navya Naveli Nanda responds to Troll

Shweta Bachchan Nanda has condemned the media and paparazzi for invading her daughter's privacy. In her column in DNA newspaper, 'A Mother's Request', Nanda said her daughter Navya's social accounts are private and that she does not understand how pictures land up in the media with lewd headlines such as ‘Navya Nanda HOT pics’ or ‘Navya Nanda parties with friends, WILD’!

She writes that her daughter is a normal teenager, and not a public figure, even if she is related to some famous personalities.

"She is a teenager, and as most young teens are wont to do, she likes to dress up, hang out with her friends, pose for pictures and yes, go out to parties (she has a deadline and is always home well before it is over). If she finds herself on a beach, she will wear beach-appropriate attire — namely, a swimsuit — as would any young girl anywhere. If there is music, she will dance much like her peers would. She will pout, she will preen, she will hang out with boys — the last time I checked, absolutely normal teenage behaviour!"

She said that her daughter's life has been under scrutiny since she was 13 years old. She hopes that her letter will make the adults peddling these websites feel accountable. She said that as a parent she feels helpless because she is unable to 'plug the flow of filth' that is being distributed about her daughter.

"Perhaps if they understood that we, just like them, are human beings, trying to get about our everyday lives while making sure we give respect to the love and affection people show members of our family, couldn’t they in return give my daughter her private life back?" she ends.

Here's hoping!

Here are some other celebrities who have spoken out against the media's invasion of their kids' personal lives.

1. Jennifer Garner turned the tables on a nosy photographer by taking a picture of him with her camera phone. She was with her three children at a farmer's market when the paparazzi tried to photograph her.

"My three children are private citizens. I love my kids. They're beautiful and sweet and innocent, and I don't want a gang of shouting, arguing, lawbreaking photographers who camp out everywhere we are all day, every day, to continue traumatizing my kids," she said.

2. Rani Mukherjee hit back at photographers who tried taking a photo of her baby Adira at the airport. She hid the baby's face and reprimanded the photographers.

3. Halle Berry recently shut down a troll on Instagram who called her out for not sharing her children's faces on social media.

"It’s my belief, and I’m not criticizing others who have different beliefs, that it’s my job as their mother to protect their privacy as best I can. When they grow and they’re of age and they want share their images on the internet, that will be for them to decide, not me," she commented.

Halle Berry and Jennifer Garner helped pass a bill in California, which protects the children of public figures. They also started the No Kids Policy, along with other celebrity parents that aims to boycott publications which run pictures of celebrities' children.

This could be good fodder for thought for Indian celebrity parents who may also want to come together to protect their kids from the public glare.
