Olympic Silver Medallist PV Sindhu was on Thursday (July 27) appointed as a Group-I officer in Andhra Pradesh. Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu himself presented Sindhu the appointment letter at a function in Amaravati.
Naidu said he hopes Sindhu would bring more glory to the country in future. An ecstatic Sindhu has taken on her new role with pride, though she has clarified that badminton is always her first priority.

After her return from the Rio Olympics with the silver medal, the CM had promised that Sindhu would be given a sub-collector's job.
At that time, the Andhra and Telangana governments had awarded her Rs 3 crore and Rs 5 crore cash price respectively and declared a residential plot in her name in Hyderabad for her stellar performance. Simultaneously, she was offered a government job, but Sindhu only accepted the cash.

The 21-year-old shuttler has been working as an assistant manager (sports) with Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) at its Hyderabad office.
Although Sindhu had missed out on gold in Rio de Janeiro, she scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman athlete ever to win silver at the Olympics.

The shuttler took her game to the global league when she became the first Indian sportswoman to win silver in badminton and reached the finals in the Olympics. In the final, Sindhu gave tough competition to World No.1 Carolina Marin of Spain. She also became the fifth Indian woman to clinch a medal in Olympics history. Other Indian atheletes who won Olympic medals are Karnam Malleswari, Mary Kom, Saina Nehwal and Sakshi Malik.
