A woman against other women should not be leading the National Commission for Women (NCW) says a young girl who follows Chairperson Rekha Sharma on Twitter. NCW's Rekha Sharma trended today as her older tweets resurfaced showing her criticising other women, and making political attacks at them.
Twitter users, shocked at Rekha Sharma's past commentary, asked for her removal.
"What a hideous person we have heading the women’s body. Beyond disgusting @sharmarekha. Send yourself a notice and resign after that," tweeted journalist Rohini Singh.

Sankul from Dalit Lives Matter asked when will NCW take action against its own head for speaking against other women.
NCW chairperson was the first to take action Azad for making "demeaning" remarks against women in his tweets

When will NCW take action against their own chairperson Rekha Sharma for her demeaning remarks towards woman in her tweets? pic.twitter.com/a7Sha9h3W2
Still can't believe she is chairperson of National Commission for Women. pic.twitter.com/o8uFmhGimZ

Sharma, as NCW Chief has often spoken up against sexist comments by other politicians. RJ Sayema, in her tweet, asked Sharma to simply admit her mistake and accept her comments and apoligise.
If you had an embarrassing past, why can’t you, simply, APOLOGISE?Accept that you made mistakes? Perhaps terrible ones. But, now you have learnt your lessons?!
— Sayema (@_sayema) October 20, 2020
Why don’t you? Coz you aren’t repentant? Coz you aren’t apologetic? Coz you haven’t changed for the better? Coz???
"What's the point of hiding your tweets now?" asked Ruchira Chaturvedi of the Indian National Congress. "Cannot believe that the Chairperson of India's National Commission for Women is so deeply misogynistic and regressive! What action will NCW take against Rekha Sharma's vile tweets?"
Other users questioned Sharma's language and 'mentality'

Earlier Rekha Sharma condemned Congress Leader Kamal Nath for calling another female politician 'item.' Rahul Gandhi criticised Nath for his comment. Twitterati was quick to ask if Smriti Irani, the Minister in charge of Women and Child Development ministry would ask Sharma to quit.
It's very demeaning & later, he said that he was reading from a list, I want to ask him, in the same list where was he standing? Which item he was?: Rekha Sharma, Chairperson of National Commission for Women on former Madhya Pradesh CM & Congress leader Kamal Nath's "item" remark pic.twitter.com/ZwNAd1KyyJ

So @RahulGandhi today condemned the senior leader ( Kamal Nath ) as he used "item" word for a woman.

My Question?
So will @narendramodi & @smritiirani remove @sharmarekha from her post today?#SackRekhaSharma
Hi @smritiirani ji:
— Saket Gokhale (@SaketGokhale) October 20, 2020
Will you be taking action against @sharmarekha & dismissing her under Sec 4(3)(d) of The National Commission for Women Act, 1990 for the communal dog whistle of “love jihad” & for her past misogynist tweets?
Or does one have to approach the courts for this?
Sharma restricted her account after the #SackRekhaSharma hashtag trended.
So India’s women’s body chief hides her Twitter account after activists dig out old misogynistic tweets by her. Mind you her role as national commission for women chief is to safeguard the safety of women and help them get justice! What a shameful commentary for new India! pic.twitter.com/LlOnTRs9h8
