JNU student leader and activist Shehla Rashid has accused her father, Abdul Rashid Shora, of domestic violence against her mother, sister, and herself. Calling him a "wife-beater and an abusive, depraved man," she has shared pictures of the "court order restraining him from entering home dated 17-11-2020." Rashid's allegation comes in response to a video of her father being circulated, in which he is claiming that his daughter has been receiving funds from dubious sources. He has further stated that he has been receiving death threats from Rashid, supported by his elder daughter Asma Rashid, and wife Zubeida Shora.

Via a Twitter thread, Rashid has claimed the allegations by her father on video is a “stunt” in reaction to the domestic violence complaint and restraining order against him. Saying that he has been abusive towards them “for as long as we can remember,” she further writes, “My mother has tolerated abuse, violence, and mental torture all her life… Now that we have started speaking up against his physical and mental abuse, he has started abusing us too. In this connection, I have also filed an FIR in September.”Rashid claims her father is levelling “absolutely disgusting, baseless allegations,” at a time when the family is mourning the death of a close member. Stating that “silence only emboldens abusers,” Rashid has shared proof of the court order against her father:
4) One may talk endlessly about justice, but charity really does begin at home. We have finally decided to not bear abuse silently, as silence only emboldens abusers.

Very serious allegations but certainly not surprising!! #TukdeTukdeGang pic.twitter.com/KIyK7jU1t4
Rashid has rubbished his claims, saying, “This is not a political matter.” Alongside her statement, she has attached a “Letter to him from Mohalla Committee in 2005 asking him not to abuse” the family.
2) This is not a political matter, as it has been going on ever since I came to senses.
