Shabnam: Mathura jail is all set to witness a historic hanging. Shabnam a woman from Amroha, Uttar Pradesh will possibly be hanged for killing seven people with an axe in August 2008.
The jail is preparing for the hanging and it is known that the jail has already ordered the rope for the hanging of the convicts. With the hanging procedures being articulated, Shabnam will become the first female prisoner to be hanged after India's Independence.
It is to be marked that Shabnam did challenge the lower court's order of death penalty in the Supreme Court but the foremost court upheld the sentence given by the lower court. After the apex court's denial to refute the lower court's decision, Shabnam and her lover Salim both moved to the President with the mercy petition, but their plea didn't see the door of acceptance.
Presently, Shabnam is in jail at Bareilly whereas his accomplice Salim is lodged behind the bars in Agra.
About The Proceedings Of Shabnam's Hanging
A female hanging house was constructed in Mathura Jail 150 years ago but no female prisoner has been hanged there since Independence. According to the Senior Jail Superintendent of the Mathura jail authorities, the date of execution isn't confirmed and fixed yet. He further added, that though the dates aren't fixed, the jail authorities have started the preparation. Moreover, he said that the rope has been ordered. Both Shabnam and her accomplice Salim will be hanged soon as the death warrant is issued.
Shabnam and Salim's case was heard at a court in Amroha for two years and three months. On 15 July 2010, District Judge SAA Hussaini ruled that Salim and Shabnam must be hanged till death.
Who is Shabnam And Why Did Shabnam Kill Her Family Members?
Shabnam is a woman from Amroha, Uttar Pradesh. She was having an affair with Salim and they both wished to get married but Shabnam's family members were against their relationship. On April 15 2008, Shabnam along with her lover Salim wiped out her family members with an axe. Salim and Shabnam killed the woman's father Master Shaukat, mother Hashmi, brothers Rashid and Anees, sister Rabia, sister-in-law Anjum and also her nephew Arsh. She killed Arsh by strangulating him whereas she used an axe to kill others. She initially pretended that her house was attacked by unidentified assailants. Such was the intensity of the incident that people from the village of Bawankhedi still remember the gruesome incident which took place on the night of April 15, 2008.
