The Directive Details

The directive, issued by the apex court, pertains to the forthcoming polls slated for this month within the SCBA. As per the stipulations set forth by the court, a minimum of three out of nine seats in the executive committee, along with a quota of at least two out of six senior executive positions, are to be reserved exclusively for women members of the Bar. Additionally, the decree mandates that at least one post of office-bearer must be reserved exclusively for women candidates on a rotational basis.

The upcoming election for the term 2024-2025 will witness the Treasurer position of the Executive Committee reserved explicitly for women. By ensuring adequate representation of women within the SCBA's executive committee, the Supreme Court has taken a commendable stride towards rectifying historical imbalances and promoting equitable participation of women in key decision-making processes.

The reservation of key positions for women members of the bar not only addresses the longstanding underrepresentation of women in legal leadership roles but also fosters a conducive environment for their professional growth and advancement. Through measures such as reserving one post of office-bearer exclusively for women on a rotational basis, the Supreme Court acknowledges the invaluable contributions of women advocates  and seeks to amplify their voices within the legal fraternity.
