Saudi Arabia saw its first ever concert by a female performer. A female singer performed solo at a public concert for the first time in the country’s history. It was Lebanese singer Hiba Tawaji who took to the stage at the King Fahd Cultural Centre in the capital Riyadh this week.
“After one of my songs, I yelled ‘girl power.’ I felt honoured to be one of the first females to sing in a public concert in Saudi Arabia,” she told the Arab News.

The announcer welcomed the girl onto the stage and called the event a “proud moment” for the country.
Interestingly, tickets for the show had sold out days before the final day of Hiba Tawaji's performance. According to reports, women from across the kingdom came in big groups to attend the show. Infact, many came without any male member accompanying them.

The Saudi education ministry announced that it will allow physical education for girls in public schools.
With positive developments of these kinds, we hope the country becomes more liberal with its women and starts giving more freedom to them to lead a life of their choice.
