Former AIADMK general secretary VK Sasikala was admitted to a hospital in Bengaluru on Thursday owing to a "severe chest infection", fever, breathlessness and cough. Hours later, she tested positive for COVID-19. Doctors reportedly said her condition is stable as of now. Sasikala tested positive for COVID-19 in her third test, her previous two tests were negative.
According to an ANI report, she was diagnosed with the COVID-19 and suffers from comorbidities for the disease, such as hypertension, diabetes and hypothyroidism. She's now being treated as per the coronavirus protocol, said authorities at the Victoria Hospital, where she was admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU).

According to doctors, her oxygen saturation level was 79 (against the normal of 95 and above) on Wednesday evening. Dr K Ramesh Krishna, medical superintendent at Victoria Hospital, told ANI that her oxygen saturation is now around 98 percent which is being maintained through "around 10 litres of oxygen through NRBM (Non-rebreather mask)." She also has a lung infection.

Incidentally, Sasikala's illness comes just days before her release from the prison on January 27. Now, doctors said that the former aid of Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalitha could remain in quarantine at the hospital for 10 more days.
“I've reliable info that Sasikala's health is stable, doctors are looking after her. She is being monitored properly. She needs oxygen due to some secondary infections. Doctors are still deciding on whether CT scans are required or not,” her nephew and AIADMK general secretary TTV Dhinakaran had told news agency ANI.
The 63-year-old leader is serving a four-year jail term in the Rs 66 crore disproportionate assets case. She was lodged at Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara jail.
