In the 59 kg pre-quarterfinals on Wednesday, Sarita Mor advanced to the semifinals after defeating defending champion Linda Morais of Canada. Along with Mor, India’s Anshu Malik too advanced to the semifinals of the World Championship, competing in the 57 kg category.

Sarita Mor, the reigning Asian Champion had a tough opening bout with Morais, the 2019 World Champion but advanced ahead with a tactical 8-2 win against her opponent. Quick takedown moves and good defence put Sarita ahead in a 7-0 position early on, by the time the first period was over.

A take-down move in the second period was the only scoring point she conceded. Other than that, she did not let Morais score any points and kept her in lock positions.

After emerging victorious in the pre-quarterfinals, Mor was pitted against Germany’s Sandra Paruszewski and this turned out to be a tough bout, where the two wrestlers were mostly restricted to a standing fight. The only point was taken by Sarita in a take-down move late in the match, sealing the outcome.

Sarita Mor will now face the European Champion, Bilyana Zhivkova Duodova from Bulgaria in the semifinals, for a place in the historic finals.

Anshu Malik in the 57kg category also saw an easy win against Kazakhstan’s Nilufar Raimova and beat her by technical superiority. She later defeated Mongolia’s Davaachimeg Erkhembayar 5-1 to advance to the semifinals.
