Sarah Jacob takes on as the host of NDTV's popular Sunday show We The People which was anchored since its inception by Barkha Dutt. Barkha recently quit NDTV to pursue her own ventures. Sarah is currently the anchor of a daily news bulletin called NewsFirst At 10. Sarah has had stints at the channel reporting social issues, crime and was the US correspondent for NDTV for many years.
When the channel completed 25 years Sarah went on the record to say "it had been an amazing ride" for her at the company. Announcing her taking over, Sarah posted on Facebook:
Last week as the office was abuzz with news of Barkha Dutt leaving, I was discussing the matter with some close colleagues. While we agreed the show would go on, I remember saying that I pitied the poor sod who would have to take over the path-breaking “We the People," since they would have the unenviable lot of being perpetually compared to Barkha. Well, someone up there has a wicked sense of humour because Radhika and Prannoy Roy, in their infinite wisdom, picked me! I am honoured, humbled, and excited.
We The People is a debate show on current affairs with six to eight panellists are invited for each discussion. The panel usually consists of politicians, social scientists, academicians, social workers and celebrities, depending on the topic. There is an audience which often press questions directly to the panellists.
