Sara Duterte-Caprio, the daughter of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte filed her candidacy for the vice presidency. According to reports, her spokesperson confirmed the news ending the speculations about her 2022 election plans.
The 43-year-old politician entered the vice presidential race after her political party's candidate withdrew, Mayor Christina Garcia- Frasco said in a statement on Saturday. She wrote on Facebook, "This is to confirm that Mayor Inday Sara Duterte through her representative, has filed her Certificate of Candidacy for Vice President under Lakas-CMD Not long after Sara Duterte-Caprio filed her candidacy, the political party Ferdinand Marcos Jr of the Philippines adopted her as its presidential choice. She is yet to release her statement on the same. According to local reports, Duterte-Carpio decision to run for the post of Vice President comes as a surprise o many as many opinion polls had called a preferred candidate for the president of the country. Her father has been barred by the country's constitution from running for the second six-year term and is currently been investigated by the International Criminal Court due to his so-called war on drugs. He had also said in October this year that he is going to retire from politics. Marcos Jr popularly known as Bongbong who has the second spot in voter surveys is going to run for president. His family enjoys voters' support in the country's north and centre region while Dutertes have a stronghold in the southern region. Marcos Jr, who was at a wedding on Thursday and was seen walking arm-in-arm with Sara, told reporters: “I will continue with my plan.
