Sara Ali Khan trolled: Actor Sara Ali Khan received a slew of abusive comments on her Instagram where she recently shared pictures from a trip she took to the Kedarnath Temple with Janhvi Kapoor. Referencing her religion, many under her photos have raised questions on why she visited a holy shrine for Hindus.
Khan is the daughter of actors Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, who had an interfaith marriage in 1991. The couple is now divorced. On social media, Khan is seen celebrating festivals of both her parents' religions.
Photos of her and film industry colleague and friend Kapoor taking a holy trip together to Uttarakhand went viral earlier this week.
Sharing glimpses from her Kedarnath visit, the 26-year-old wrote on Instagram, "Back to where it all began 🙏🏻 🔱 ❄️💗 #jaibholenath #grateful #blessed." She made her Hindi big-screen debut in 2018 with the film Kedarnath, appearing opposite late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Kedarnath, depicting the 2013 Uttarakhand floods, was shot on-site.

This controversy brews in the wake of Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami becoming the target of trolls following a T20 match loss against Pakistan last month. Many netizens came at Shami on his social media pages, attacking him for his religion and insinuating that he was playing for Pakistan in the game. Several senior Indian cricketers came out in support of him, including Irfan Pathan, Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman.
Current captain Virat Kohli, who later defended Shami at a press conference saying, "Attacking someone over their religion is the most pathetic thing that a human being can do," was brutally abused as well.
