Malik's manager and agent Ameem Haq, was also the first ones to share the news, tweeting: "Baby and mother are all smiles, the dad is over the moon."
Mirza, who took a break after undergoing surgery, took a lengthier time out, after confirming the news of her pregnancy. She also clarified earlier that she is aiming to be back on the court for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The couple, who married in 2010, had made a unique announcement in April this year about Mirza’s pregnancy. In her announcement, she used an illustration of closets while making it different for a boy and a girl. She captioned the photo “#BabyMirzaMalik”. This is their first child.
My husband and I have spoken about it and we have decided that whenever we have a child, the child will have Mirza-Malik as a surname and not just Malik. -Sania Mirza
Sania, during a panel discussion on ‘Gender Bias’ at the ‘Goa Fest 2018’, went on record to say that she will keep the child’s surname as “Mirza Malik”. “Today I will tell you a secret. My husband and I have spoken about it and we have decided that whenever we have a child, the child will have Mirza-Malik as a surname and not just Malik. So that’s where we stand as a family including my husband. He actually wants a daughter,” Sania had said.
Recently, Sania also featured on the cover of JW Magazine. The magazine, which focused on her take on motherhood, quoted her saying, “Pregnancy is not a deterrent. It empowers and inspires.”
Congratulatory messages have already started flowing with people from films, sports icons and fans across nations taking to social media to express their joy.
Well, we couldn’t be happier for the couple. Congratulations!
