With a jump of eight places, Sania Mirza achieved her career’s best ranking of number six in Women’s double. According to the new chart released after the conclusion of the French open, on Monday, Sania earned 430 points along with partner Cara Black (which turned out to be their last match in the series); who later lost to Shuai Peng and Su-Wei Hsieh and could not go past the quarter finals.
Mirza later told NDTV SPORTS- “"When I started the season this year in January, one of my goals was to better my career-best world ranking. I am happy to have achieved this today" Sania’s father and coach Imran Mirza told the same website that he believed she was rewarded for her consistency and added that she had the potential to go further."
According to the NDTV SPORTS website, India’s number one singles player Ankita Raina too achieved her highest career-rank of 262 with a jump of 28 places. Ankita earned 30 points and became a runner-up at a USD 25,000 event in Indonesia.
Somdev Devvarman had to exit in the first round itself and was dropped out of the top 100. He ended up losing 23 places and his rank came down to119 in the singles chart.
