Sameer Wankhede Nikah Controversy: Narcotics Control Bureau officer Sameer Wankhede's personal life is under the spotlight after Maharashtra cabinet minister Nawab Malik posted the "nikah nama" or marriage certificate of his first wedding. Wankhede was previously married to Dr Shabana Qureshi. The two however parted ways and Wankhede later married Marathi actor Kranti Redkar. Malik has accused Wankhede of using fraudulent methods to obtain a caste certificate in order to get employed with the Indian Revenue Services.
According to Malik, Wankhede is a Muslim who had allegedly obtained a scheduled caste certificate to further his career. Malik had previously shared Wankhede's alleged birth certificate in which his father's name is listed as Dawood K Wankhede, as opposed to Dnyandev Wankhede ( the name registered with NCB). Furthering his agenda, Malik released the nikah nama of Wankhede's marriage with Qureshi in which his name is apparently written as Sameer Dawood Wankhede.

Wankhede's wife Kranti Redkar has now stepped in to defend her husband, saying that his marriage to Qureshi was registered under the Special Marriage Act, which gives provision for civil marriage for people of India and all Indian nationals in foreign countries, irrespective of their faith.
According to Redkar, the nikah nama being shared online is correct. "Nikah happened but Sameer legally didn't change his religion, caste. It was just a formality as my mother-in-law was Muslim and for her happiness, nikah happened." She however went on the add that the birth certificate shared by Nawab Malik is wrong.
Redkar also said that by sharing the Wankhede family's personal photos, Malik has acted against the constitutional oath he took. "We will take legal action against him, an FIR has been registered," she said, adding that Malik's only motive is to remove Sameer Wankhede from his post so that his son-in-law could be saved.
The NCP leader's son-in-law Sameer Khan was arrested by the NCB in January this year, in connection with a drug case. He was released on bail in September.
