A girl allegedly got gang-raped in the Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh and later due to reported pressure from the accused's family to go for a settlement, she took her life. As per reports, one of the accused has been arrested but the rest are absconding.

The 16-year-old woman living in the Atwan village of Sambhal district was allegedly gang-raped and threatened to not tell anyone about it or they would kill her and her family, reportedly.
Here are 10 things to know about the Sambhal Gangrape Case:
- The mother of the rape survivor alleged that Sauvendra who is a local youth had entered their home late in the night when everyone was asleep and took her daughter to a nearby village where she got raped.
- The man had allegedly threatened to kill the teen and her family so out of fear she did not tell her mother until a month later. As soon as her mother got to know about the incident, she complained to the police, this happened around July 15.
- Reportedly, the mother of the teen claimed that nothing was done regarding this case by the police for another month. "We went to the circle officer in Sambhal, then we went to Moradabad. We filed a complaint but there was no probe. Neither was anyone arrested," the mother told Quint. The survivor revealed three more names Veeresh, Geneesh, and Bipin who cannot be found after being identified.
- Meanwhile, after the complaint, the survivor's family informed that the accused and their families and allegedly even the police pressured the teen for a settlement.
- The pressure of settlement had put the teen under extreme stress and her family had told the police about it too, but there was no action taken. The family of the teen alleges bribery too.
- According to the reports, on August 22, the underage teen called the police requesting them to take a step and start investigating the case. The girl's mother told The Quint, "My daughter called the cops, and asked them to visit our home to investigate. But they said that we have duty elsewhere, so we cannot come. But they came a few days ago, and were not in uniform. They went to the home of the accused. They have taken Rs 2-3 lakh from the family of the accused. They came back and asked us to compromise. We told them that we wanted justice and that there will be no compromise."
- On August 23, the teenager took her life. Her death stirred the case and the police started looking into the matter.
- On August 24, one of the accused named Veeresh was arrested according to the Sambhal police who uploaded a photo of the man on their Twitter handle. The Superintendent of Police Chakresh Mishra has informed that they have the case's investigating officer.
- It has been reported that on August 25 the police nabbed the three other absconding accusers.
- The brother of the girl has alleged that their family has received death threats.
