Telugu actor Samantha Akkineni will be essaying the lead role in upcoming mythological film Shakuntalam. The film's director Gunasekar shared a motion poster of this mythological drama on January 1. Unveiling the poster, Gunasekar termed the narrative as 'mythology of millennial'. Akkineni too shared the motion poster from her Instagram account.
The movie is based on Kalidasa's famous Sanskrit play Shakuntala. While no other details were shared, the music of this pan-Indian movie will be directed by Mani Sharma.
Meanwhile, Samantha Akkineni has many other projects lined up for the new year. She will be making her web series debut with the second season of Prime's The Family Man ( Season 2), featuring Manoj Bajpayee, Priyamani, Sharib Hashmi and Gul Panag. Apart from this, she is also set to feature in two regional films.
Director Gunasekar's previous movie Rudhramadevi starred Anushka Shetty in the lead and became a hit. He had also announced another drama, Hiranyakashipu with Rana Daggubati in the lead which has reportedly been put on hold.
Samantha Akkineni turns entrepreneur
In September last year, Akkineni announced the launch of her fashion label 'Saaki'. Calling her brand affordable and accessible to everyone, Akkineni wrote, "Saaki has been a dream of mine and my baby for many months. It is a reflection of my love for fashion and my journey in life. Launching soon. Hope you like it (sic).”
