The Haryana Government is  empowering women taking the lead from the front. The state government has announced Rio Olympic bronze-medallist Sakshi Malik as Wrestling Director at Maharshi Dayanand University in her native town Rohtak. Not only that, adding another feather to her cap, Haryana Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Anil Vij also declared that Sakshi will be felicitated Rs 21 lakh out of his discretionary fund and a plot measuring 500 square yards. Following the statement, Vij also proposed a promotion under special rules to her coach Mandeep.

“By adopting Haryana’s sports model across the country, India could leave countries like the USA behind in terms of medal tally. Therefore, the policy of ‘Catch them Young’ would have to be adopted,” Vij said to Indian Express.

Haryana government had earlier rewarded a cash award of Rs 2.5 crore for Sakshi’s historic achievement at the Rio Olympics 2016.

To promote sports in the state, Haryana Government claims it will be launching 20 sports nurseries in districts, for which more than 550 applications have already been received, the Sports Minister reportedly said.

According to the reports, in a first, the present State Government has taken the initiative to establish a Sports Council in the State as before this, something that was absent.

The good news? Sakshi’s achievement has propelled all efforts to improve sport facilities for women.
