Orleans Masters: Indian badminton player Saina Nehwal was defeated by Denmark's Line Christophersen in the semifinal round of the Orleans Masters tournament.
Saina's 21-year-old Danish opponent defeated her in just 28 minutes in two consecutive matches. The final scores of both the matches were 21-17, 21-17 respectively. Line Christophersen has now advanced straight into the final round of the Orleans Masters tournament.
Line was in full control and was able to dominate the match from the beginning itself.
Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy Crash Out Of Orleans Masters Semifinals
The Indian women's doubles pair Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy lost to Thailand's female duo Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai. Both Ashwini and Sikki were ousted from the semifinals in two straight games which lasted for 37 minutes. The final scores of both the matches were 21-18, 21-8 respectively. However, Aswini will be playing in the mixed doubles alongside Dhruv Kapila against the Danish duo Niclas Nohr and Amalie Magelund.
On Friday, Saina Nehwal had defeated American badminton player Iris Wang in three back-to-back matches 21-19, 17-21, 21-19 in the quarterfinal round of the Orleans Masters. Their encounter lasted for an hour.
Wang put up a brave fight but was unable to defeat Olympic bronze medalist Saina Nehwal. Saina won the first and third matches, while Wang was able to defeat her in the second.
As far as the men are concerned, the men's doubles pair Krishna Prasad Garaga and Vishnu Vardhan Goud Panjala advanced into the final round after defeating Callum Hemming and Steve Stallwood, the British duo. Both Krishna and Vishnu played well in their semifinal match which lasted for 35 minutes. The scores were 21-17, 21-17. The Indian duo will be playing the final match on Sunday. They will be clashing against the winner between the English pair Ben Lane-Sean Vendy and Sabar Karyaman Gutama-Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani of Indonesia.
