A Russian female veteran deployed to Ukraine alleged that high-ranking officers were using female medics as sex slaves.
The soldier, identified as Margarita spoke with the news outlet Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and said that female medics in her unit were forced to become sex slaves. The whistleblower said that medics were forced into becoming "field wives" who were required to cook and clean for officers and sexually "please" them.
Margarita alleged that women who refused to comply would be severely punished. According to The Daily Beast's translation of her interview with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, she revealed that after she refused to become a "field wife" for a colonel she was forced to live outside.

Margarita claimed to witness an officer shooting a medic named Svetlana, his "field wife", which left her permanently disabled. She alleged that the officer made it seem as if the Ukrainians had shot her and added that the officer shot himself in the hand as if he was protecting her.
According to Margarita, male conscripts also suffered abusive behaviour and those who refused to fight were locked naked in basements filled with rats.
Margarita volunteered for the war in Ukraine she they served in Russia's army until 2017. Despite the horrific experience, she revealed that she would be willing to sign up again to serve in the miliatary as she would not earn enough to make a living as a civilian.
She added that she would also like to help the soldiers so that they would be fed. "I have some sense of duty of something unfinished" said Margarita.
Previously, Russian soldiers were accused of sexually assaulting and raping Ukrainian women during the conflict. According to a war crimes investigator, in some cases Russian commanders had ordered their troops to commit sexual violence in Ukraine.
In 2022, Ukraine's First Lady Olena Zelenska said that Russian solders were encouraged to rape women by their wives.
