Rolls-Royce CEO Tufan Erginbilgic has made significant changes to the company's top team by appointing new leaders and replacing the finance director. This is the first major restructuring of the senior management since he assumed the role in January.
Rolls-Royce's CFO
On Friday, the FTSE 100 company announced that Helen McCabe, who currently holds the position of senior vice president of finance for BP's customers and products division, has been appointed as the new chief financial officer. She will take over from Panos Kakoullis, who will leave the position at the end of August, after serving for two years.
As a result of an overhaul, Rob Watson, who previously oversaw the company's electric aviation initiatives, will now assume the role of the head of the company's crucial civil aerospace division, beginning immediately.
Adam Riddle has been named as the new leader of Rolls-Royce's defence business and has also been appointed as the chair and CEO for the company's North American branch. This comes after the announcement that Tom Bell, the former head of the company's defence business, will leave at the end of March to become the chief executive of Leidos.
Rolls-Royce's nuclear business is undergoing changes in its leadership. With immediate effect, Tom Samson, who has been the head of Rolls-Royce SMR since its inception, is stepping down.
Chris Cholerton, who previously managed the civil aerospace business at the company, but was recently named group president, will now be in charge of all nuclear operations as well. Additionally, he will serve as the interim CEO of the SMR business until someone else is hired for the position.
Rolls-Royce has announced that its transformation program, launched by Erginbilgic in January, includes some changes. Since taking over the company from Warren East at the start of the year, the former BP executive has acted swiftly to make his mark.
Erginbilgic presented a straightforward evaluation of the group in January, disclosing that Rolls-Royce had performed worse than its main competitors and labeling it as a "burning platform." A strategic review of the company's operations was then announced by him in February.
Erginbilgic has appointed McCabe for the second time, showing his tendency to seek assistance from his former employer. In February, he also hired Nicola Grady-Smith, another BP executive with whom he had previously worked, to lead the transformation program.
On Friday, Erginbilgic stated that McCabe's history of emphasizing strict financial discipline and skill in using performance management to achieve significant improvements would be extremely helpful as Rolls-Royce works quickly to undergo transformation.
"He has been an invaluable addition to Rolls-Royce and I would also like to express my gratitude towards Panos for his hard work and dedication," he stated.
According to Erginbilgic, the changes in leadership indicate that the group is moving swiftly and making progress toward the necessary transformation of Rolls-Royce.
