Police have arrested the wife of Rohit Shekhar Tiwari, son of the late Congress leader ND Tiwari, for his murder. The accused Apoorva Shukla Tiwari was reportedly questioned for three consecutive days at her residence. In the process of the investigation of the death of Rohit Shekhar Tiwari, Police have found out that he was allegedly suffocated with a pillow on April 16, according to NDTV.
"We have arrested Apoorva with the help of scientific evidence and FSL (forensic) report. She confessed that she has murdered her husband and cited unhappy marriage as the reason," senior police officer Rajiv Ranjan told IANS.
"She entered Rohit's room on April 16 and executed the crime. She later destroyed the evidences. All this happened within one-and-half hours," he said. Apoorva had initially tried to mislead the Crime Branch team but was later arrested after she was proven guilty.
How it happened
Last week, the police said Rohit Tiwari, 40, was murdered and the murderer has used a pillow to smother him. Before the investigation, it was believed that he might have died of a cardiac arrest. He had gone to Uttarakhand to vote on April 12 and had returned to Delhi on the night of April 15. The CCTV cameras in his Defence Colony home clearly showed him taking support of the wall to walk, apparently he was drunk.

The case enclosed
Crime Branch sources said after the murder, Apoorva formatted her mobile call data. The needle of suspicion pointed at three individuals, his lawyer wife Apoorva, chauffeur Akhilesh and domestic help Golu. The three were the only people present on the first floor of Delhi's Defence Colony bungalow where Rohit was killed.
The Crime Branch officer added, "We have identified the suspects but are waiting for forensic science laboratory report to prove it with scientific and concrete evidences," India Today reported.
He said, "We are investigating the case with all possible angles. It could be a sudden provocation after Shekhar saw something objectionable happening in his house, and Apoorva and Akhilesh smothered and strangulated him."
"As per medical reports, Rohit was regularly taking sleeping pills. Besides, he was also drunk that night which could be the reason for his failure to resist the killers," he added.
