Andhra Pradesh Minister RK Roja has been hitting the headlines since her name was mentioned in the 14-member list, who will be inducted in cabinet, submitted by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister to Governor Biswabhushan Harichandran for his approval. Roja, who has previously been an actor, is very popular among people and social media demanded that she is named the new Home Minister of the state. Roja started out as an actor then became a screen presenter and eventually joined politics.

Apart from her, Vidudala Rajini, and Ushashree Charan were two other women ministers who can take up Home Ministry in Andhra Pradesh. The ministry was earlier under Mekathoti Sucharita, the first Dalit woman to become a Home Minister.
Roja made her political debut in 1998 as a member of the Telugu Desam Party and has contested elections from the Nagari constituency in Andhra Pradesh on Congress Ticket. Roja has won the Assembly elections as an MLA from Nagari two times on YSR Congress Party (YSRCP).

- Roja, who was reportedly named Srilatha at birth was born in 1971 in the Chittoor district. The alumna of Sri Padmavathi Women’s University was raised in Hyderabad.
- The actor-turned-politician is reportedly trained in Kuchipudi dance form and used to perform before she took up acting.
- She made her acting debut with Telugu film Prema Thapassu with Rajendra Prasad where the film was shot in Tirupati.
- She was introduced to Tamil Film Industry with Chembaruthi in 1992 which was directed by RK Selvamani who is her husband.
- As an actor, she has worked in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films apart from working in television shows. Roja starred in 10 Kannada films and three Malayalam films. She has predominantly worked in Tamil films, though.
- The actor married Selvamani in 2002 and has two children with him.
- Roja won a Best Actress award at Tamil Nadu State Film Awards for her 1998 Tamil film titled Unnidathil Ennai Koduthen.
- Awarded by the Andhra Pradesh government, Nandi Cinema awards are given to exemplary artists in Telugu cinema, theatre and television.
- Roja was awarded three Nandi awards in 1991, 1994 and 1998 for her films Sarpayagam, Anna and Swarnakka.
- Roja also hosted shows named Modern Mahalakshmi which was telecasted on MAA TV. She was also a judge for the comedy shows Jabardasth and Extra Jabardasth which were telecasted on E TV. She also hosted a show called Lucka Kicka which aired on Zee Tamizh.
