Indian wrestlers kept hopes alive for a medal as Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat both advanced to the next round in their individual bouts at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Sakshi Malik started off solid against Malin Johanna Mattsson in the freestyle 58 kg qualifications round. As the round progressed though she trailed 0-4 after the first period. But it did not take much longer for her to bounce back and defeat Malin Johanna Mattsson, won 5-4 to enter women's freestyle 58 kg Round of 16.

Meanwhile, Vinesh Phogat took on Emilia Alina of Romania in freestyle 48 kg Round of 16. She marked an early score from a tak- down and took two more points from a gut-wrench roll. Not giving much opportunity to he opponent, she notched up a massive 6-0 lead after the first period. It wasn’t very hard for Vinesh Phogat to beat Emilia Alina 11-0 and she entered women's freestyle 48 kg quarters.

She will take on Sun Yanan next in women's freestyle 48kg quarter-finals, while Sakshi Malik face off Mariana Cherdivara-Esanu in freestyle 58kg Round of 16.
