A disappointing day for badminton fans. The women's doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa were defeated in their second match in the Women's Doubles Group A. It was a crucial match for the Indian pair as they had lost to the Japanese earlier on Thursday. But the duo lost to the Dutch pair of Eefje Muskens and Selena Piek 16-21, 21-16, 21-17, and with that their Olympics campaign came to an end.

The Indians started on a good note with an early lead of 6-4 in the first set. But the Dutch soon caught on leading 7-4, and then kept increasing their lead to win the set 21-16. The second game was on even keel at 7-7, but Jwala and Ponnappa played some neatly placed shots to go ahead and maintain the lead and take the set 21-16. The decider was a tight one, but unfortunately for the Indians, the Dutch wrapped it up 17-21, closing out the match.
All eyes are now on Ace Odisha sprinter Dutee Chand, who is representing India in the 100-metre sprint in the track and field events beginning today. Watch this space for more updates.
