Rihanna Cultural Appropriation : Barbadian Singer-Songwriter, Fashion Designer and Businesswoman Rihanna is once again embroiled in criticism owing to cultural appropriation accusations. This happened after her Savage X Fenty fashion show, which was released on Amazon recently.
In the fashion show, many non-black models had styled their hair in braids, a hairstyle typically worn by the black community. In particular, Emily Ratajkowski, and actor Vanessa Hudgens, who modeled, faced major criticism for wearing braids. They walked the ramp for the brand's luxury lingerie collection.
The show had a star studded line up of Gigi Hadid, Adriana Lima, Emily Ratajkowski, Vanessa Hudgens among others.
Seeing many of the non-black models in braids, many users on social media expressed their dissent, leading to an online debate and criticism from a large part of the community. It triggered an extensive conversation about cultural appropriation surrounding the black community.
Raina Morris, comedian and television writer, wrote "I wish I could write something as funny as putting all these white girls in braids for the Fenty show.”

This is not the first time that Rihanna has been accused of cultural appropriation. She had earlier apologised for using "Doom", by Coucou Chloe, which has vocal samples of an Islamic Hadith, in one of her Savage x Fenty fashion shows.
